THE WRANN HOTELS
A Story Full of Tradition and Innovation
With more than 200 years of history, the Wrann Hotels are among Austria's most traditional hotel establishments. From a small postal station, the present-day Hotel Post in Velden developed over generations into a place full of tradition and hospitality.
After the granting of the "innkeeper's license" in 1787 to Valentin Wrann by the Counts of Dietrichstein, the former Gasthaus Post served in the following years as an inn for travelers on the postal route from Vienna to Venice (Trieste – Gorizia), until the establishment bore the name Gasthof zum Oberrichter in 1836, as Philipp Wrann held this high office.
With the construction of the Southern Railway line, tourism in the Lake Wörthersee region truly flourished, and numerous prominent guests became regular "summer retreat vacationers." After destruction in both World Wars, Hotel Post was rebuilt each time.
EXPANSION WITH VISION
From Lake Wörthersee to Arlberg
In 1961, Jakob Wrann Senior expanded the hotelier family's legacy by building the Seehotel Europa in Velden, which is primarily focused on summer operations. However, the Wranns' spirit of innovation knew no bounds: in 1973, Hotel Bergkristall in Oberlech was opened and successfully integrated into the emerging winter sports market.
The offering is complemented by the public Wrann Beach – a paradise for bathers directly on Lake Wörthersee.
With Katharina and Tono, the ninth generation has been continuing the family tradition with an innovative spirit since 2021, skillfully combining history and modernity. With a clear vision for the future, they continuously set new standards in comfort, service, and hospitality.
